What this site is

Virtual Power Plant USA is a plain-English guide to virtual power plants in the United States. We explain how VPPs work, compare the ways homeowners can take part, and list the programs available state by state, along with the history and research behind them.

How we research

• Every program listing links to its sources. We prefer the program's own page, then the utility, regulator or grid operator, then reputable news.
• Each listing shows the date we last checked it. Programs change often, so always confirm current terms with the program before you enroll.
• We don't publish a payment amount unless an official program page states it. Where a company sets its own prices, we point you to the company instead of quoting them.
• If we can't confirm something, we leave it out.
