MISO (most of the state); PJM serves part of MI
Most of Michigan is in the MISO region (MISO's footprint runs from Michigan and Indiana west to Montana), and PJM serves part of the state. DTE Energy and Consumers Energy are the two big utilities. Today's options are mostly smart thermostat programs such as DTE SmartCurrents; DTE filed a residential battery VPP pilot in June 2026, which regulators hadn't decided as of the sources checked.

DTE gives you a free smart thermostat and adjusts it by up to 4 degrees during peak events on select weekdays (12-8 PM, up to 4 hours each, at most 64 hours a year).

A proposed two-year pilot paying owners of existing home batteries to support the grid. As proposed, battery export to the grid is restricted.
