Virtual power plants in Minnesota

Minnesota is in the MISO region, and Xcel Energy is the largest utility. In April 2026 regulators approved Xcel's Capacity*Connect, up to 200 MW of utility-owned 1-3 MW batteries sited at businesses and nonprofits, not homes. For homeowners, the confirmed option is Xcel's AC Rewards smart thermostat program; no residential battery VPP was confirmed.
